Life on the Edge

The New Year came in with a BANG for Team Bratton! Two days before Christmas we received the great news that we had acquired a new building for the ministry, Abundant Life Christian Ministries. Ty was prepping to head to Duke for his residency. I had just been asked to speak at a Servant Leadership Conference. Ty and I still needed to carve out time to plan Life Purpose Project initiatives for 2014. And of course this is all happening while needing to spend quality time with our extended family and our boys, MB1 and MB2.  Whew!! Have you heard the phrase, “when it rain it pours?” Well this is what we were feeling.  Our thought was, “at any given time our life feels like we are in a drought OR we are about to drown in the manifestation of God’s promises” – both thoughts causing us to feel completely overwhelmed and wondering “What in the name of all that is right and good in this world are we doing?”  Or, “please tell me why we decided to do this “Purpose” thing again?” Well the answer hit me like a ton of bricks. Purpose Ain’t Pretty!  The reality is once we begin to live a Purpose-filled intentional life, making daily decisions that push us from comfort and status quo to living on the edge with God’s promises; we issue an invite to the antithesis of that good work to join us at the table. For every great thing that you know God has called you to do, there is a plot from the enemy against your success.

As I began to process life with my new found wisdom that “Purpose Ain’t Pretty”, the Holy Spirit reminded me about the truth that FAVOR Ain’t Fair either. You see, life is destined to happen as long as we live in this earth.  How we choose to approach life makes the difference. I’ve listed a few strategies that we have found effective.

  1. Stay connected to like-minded people. If the synergy among your circle of friends is in constant need of a jump start, then maybe it’s time for you to jump ship.  Everyone is not able to understand the magnitude of your Dream. Employ wisdom for your own safety and post a sign that reads “NO DREAM STEALERS ALLOWED” and press forward.
  2. Expand your circle.  It’s time to talk to new people. Get out of your box and walk in faith that you are attracting those who are attached to your Dream. This works both ways. There are people looking for you right now. If your best intentions to partner have rendered nothing thus, no worries. Keep at it. You have Favor working on your behalf and the victory is yours.  Keep at it. Remember, God is able to make connections you could have never imagined. You just have to be willing to move.
  3. Pray.  I can’t emphasize this one enough.  Communicate with the Dream-Giver regularly. You will find yourself in some places you never imagined, with people you don’t know, and blessings that are running you down. God leads if we want to follow.

Lastly, when we live according to God’s Purpose and stand firm on His Promises, We WIN! Why? So that God gets ALL the glory in our story.  Trials will continue to come your way. But the bigger those trials are the bigger your story of Victory. In the meantime, keep the faith. Purpose may not be Pretty.  But the Favor on your Life Ain’t Fair either.  Continue to Set order to your Thoughts. Speak Life to your situation. And Direct your energy Toward Destiny! Get ready to be a blessing!
